Alli reports from the gala: The passing of the gavel was an intimate event this year with a gathering ofabout a dozen Rotarians, family and friends. Our host, Daniel, prepared adelicious gourmet Mexican meal with endless fresh fruit margaritas. Jeffhonored David Wilson as the Rotarian of the Year with a Paul HarrisFellow.
Our trip to BSU's new e-Sports Stadium was an eye-opener! Boise State is a leader in this new field of gaming as a varsity sport. There are 75 students involved in Varsity and JV teams, playing other colleges and universities from around the country.
Remember that July 16 is our bone marrow donor recruitment drive, in support of former member Michael Barker and others suffering from blood cancer. After a presentation by Gift of Life Marrow Registry, we’ll have on-site testing and registration—making it another excellent week to invite a young guest!
Participating in the registry is fast and painless. If you are between the ages of 18 and 45 and in general good health, you are eligible to be screened and join the worldwide registry for patients in need, at no cost. (Donors between 45 and 60 are simply asked to consider the cost to process their sample.) A simple swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match.
We will be set up to perform cheek swabs right there at Rotary! Please pre-register here so we have enough kits. Thanks!
With the goal of creating a new songbook for our club, your song leaders have exhausted their libraries. We have "tested" 32 songs since we started. We have removed two from the list as "morbid". We need your suggestions to add to the list. Keep in mind that your songleaders are men of a certain age and are not really "musicians". We have to know what a song sounds like in order to perform it. We are not likely to know anything recorded by Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead or Foo Fighters. Neither are we good with genres like Trash Metal, Grunge or Gothic Rock. Songs have to be simple and singable, with no famous guitar riffs. Please let Cahill or John know of any suggestions.
