THIS WEEK - IDAHO BUSINESS FOR EDUCATION
Our speaker this week will be Shawna Walz, V.P. of Idaho Business for Education.  She is also the Founder of the Idaho Diaper Bank. Starting in 2014, the bank now distributes more than 40,000 diapers per month!

"Idaho Business for Education (IBE) is a group of nearly 200 business leaders from across the state who are committed to transforming Idaho’s education system. IBE embraces the State Board of Education’s goal that 60 percent of our 25-34 year-olds will have a post-secondary credential by 2025."
GREENBELT UPDATE - THINGS ARE MOVING!
A meeting was held last week with City Parks and Rec to set things in motion now that we have raised most of the money needed to complete the project. Our three Rotary clubs will be executing a Donation Agreement and consolidating our resources into a "Construction Account". The City Arts and History Department will be doing the research and designs for our interpretive signs; construction drawings are under way. Our first brick order is in production now, we'll hold our Order #2  open until May 1st. We are still waiting for an estimate on the costs of moving the DAR monument to our site. If all goes according to plan, we can look forward to breaking ground in mid-July. We won't know until bids go out, but we may have to raise some additional funds. Stay tuned........
GOOD JOB SUPPORTING JEM FRIENDS!
The last push for Happy Bucks shoved us over the line for being able to deliver some good stuff to JEMFriends. Here's what we gathered throughout our quarterly drive:
  • 62 rolls of toilet paper
  • 7 rolls of paper towels
  • 3 canisters of Lysol Wipes
  • 1 cleaning sponge
  • 2 $10 Starbuck's gift cards
  • 1 $50 Fred Meyer gift card
  • 6 $25 Walmart gift cards (JEMFriends specified this location and amount increment, so this is where the cash went)
  • 1 box of Kleenex
We made a pretty good haul for our first drive. Thank you so much to everyone who participated! JEMFriends will come to our March 13th meeting to collect these items.

For Q2 we've decided on the Agency for New Americans (a program of Jannus, who spoke to us last week). We'll focus on gathering items to create male and female (adults and kids) "hygiene kits" for their clients. Obviously this stuff needs to be new, but think about those lotions you got for Christmas you shoved deep into the linen closet, or the toothpaste you're hoarding because there was a 10 for $10 sale at Albertson's and you have a shopping problem.
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Lotion
  • Deodorant
  • Soap
  • Pads (no tampons)
  • Shaving lotion
  • Razors
  • Comb/brush
  • Diapers
  • Baby wipes
  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Laundry soap
  • Ajax or some other cleaner (Scott - I know you don't know what this is, so just think about what other people use to clean your bathroom)
If you would rather give a monetary donation, I can do the shopping for you.

Thank you again for all of your contributions! This is such a simple way to make a big impact. I know the kids at JEMFriends are going to feel so loved when they receive their goods.

LET'S THANK BORAH KIDS FOR THE ROSES!
Next Tuesday, March 6th at 2:30pm we'll be presenting our $500 check to about 25 Borah High students who helped with our rose sale. It would great if you could take time to go say thank you to the students for their tremendous help with our 2017 Rose Sale.
EVERYDAY LEADERSHIP HELPS 5-6TH GRADERS

I am attaching information from Bob Rainville, Sunrise Rotary, about a program called Everyday Leadership...a leadership program for 5-6th graders at some local Title 1 schools.  I volunteered a few years ago to help facilitate a day of this program and found it engaging, meaningful, and based on the attachment, the program is having notable success.

Bob will be presenting the program March 13th, 7-8 AM at his Sunrise Rotary club, which meets at the Riverside Hotel.

I would like to invite any interested Boise Metro Rotary members to attend as well so we can learn more about the program.  Perhaps if it's viable, our club could entertain the support of it?
